Curious about Jedi Callie?

Here's some info about the webmaster...

Who is Jedi Callie?

I'm a 24 year old self-proclaimed Star Wars addict from Northern California!

I've grown up with Star Wars ever since A New Hope was released when I was merely 18 months old. I was too young to see A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back when they were originally released, but even at that young age, I knew who Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Darth Vader were. I was playing with Star Wars toys before I had ever even seen the entirety for the first two movies! ;-)

But my "birth" as a full-fledged Star Wars fan came in 1983, when my dad took me and my mom to see Return of the Jedi. From that moment on, I was hooked... I found myself immersed in this fantastic new universe, and I've loved it ever since!

As you have no doubt guessed from this site, my all-time favorite character is, and always will be, Luke Skywalker. There isn't enough time in the universe for me to list all the reasons why I love Luke ;-), but I'll give it a shot here: I love Luke's loyalty, his selflessness, his optimism, and his determination. And, all right, if truth be told, I also happen to think he's pretty gorgeous ;-).

Right after Luke, my favorite character is Princess Leia-- the kickbutt, spunky heroine of the original trilogy, and now, Padme, Luke and Leia's strong-willed mother. My favorite character from the Star Wars books is my namesake, Callista :-).

How did I get the name Jedi Callie?

Well, as I said, my all-time favorite character from the Star Wars books is Callista, the brave Jedi Knight who lost her life fighting the burgeoning Empire, and then got a second chance at life so she could be with her beloved. When it came time for me to pick an alias, I wanted to pay tribute to her! And, all right, it was also because she and Luke had a pretty intense relationship, and I wanted to pay tribute to that too ;-)

Random stuff about me...

I was born in Mainla, Philippines, and grew up in the Philippines, Denmark, Germany, and the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, where we moved when I was 10 years old!

I went to school at a small Jesuit liberal arts college, Santa Clara University (woohoo, go Broncos!!). I graduated in December 1996 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and a minor in German. Some famous alums have graced the hallowed halls of SCU, among them are: Leon Panetta, former White House Chief of Staff; Dee Dee Myers, former White House Press Secretary; Brent Jones, former SF 49er; Steve Nash, point guard for the Dallas Mavericks; Shemar Moore, "Malcolm" on the Young and the Restless; and Brandi Chastain, member of the World Cup Champion U.S. Women's Soccer Team! (hopefully someday I'll be on this list too *hehe*)

I now work for a web publishing company here in "Silicon Valley" where I do market research, but my true passion is singing and songwriting, which I have been doing since I was 8 years old. Last year, I realized a dream when I started my own music production company, "Tiwala Music." Hopefully, y'all will be able to buy my CD's someday :-)

What else do I love besides Star Wars?

Well, another "obsession" of mine is HOCKEY!!! I live, breathe, and eat hockey (though sadly, I can't actually play it--I can't even skate!). During the hockey season, I turn into NHL woman, and watch games on my satellite dish :-). I cheer on the Florida Panthers (where my favorite player, Ray Whitney, plays), the Carolina Hurricanes (where my other favorite, Arturs Irbe, plays), and the Pittsburgh Penguins (where my favorite coach, Kevin Constantine, coaches!). I love hockey so much that I maintain a site for my two favorite players!

What do I do in my spare time?

Ha! Spare time? What is that? ;-) Well, when I do find myself with some free time, I love to...

Watch a good movie

My all-time favorite movies of course, are the Star Wars movies, but I also love: L.A. Confidential, When Harry Met Sally, Glory, Dead Poet's Society, Shakespeare In Love, While You Were Sleeping, and so, so many others more!!! And I'll pretty much see any movie with Guy Pearce, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Sandra Bullock... :-)

Listen to great music

Music being my passion, I of course keep my CD shelf stacked with an eclectic mix. And when I say eclectic, I mean eclectic! Some of the artists you'll find on my shelf: Debbie Gibson and NKOTB (what girl from the early 90's wasn't into them ;-)?), Madonna, Mariah Carey, Selena, Natalie Imbruglia, the Doors, Lauryn Hill, Will Smith, Shania Twain, Bryan Adams, Alanis Morrisette, Kai, Lea Salonga, Babyface, Jann Arden... The list goes on and on...

Read a good book

To say I am a bookworm would be a gross understatement ;-). I like to say I devour books--let's just say, I keep Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble afloat ;-). I love reading fiction and nonfiction (history, religion, economics, science...). If I ever had to be stranded on a desert isle, I would have to take the following books with me: A Life of Jesus by Shusaku Endo, Der Richter und Sein Henkerby Friedrich Dürenmatt, When the Rainbow Goddess Wept by Cecilia Manguerra Brainard, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, L.A. Confidential by James Ellroy, Children of the Jedi by Barbara Hambly, and Microeconomics by James Collander (don't laugh, it's just that this was the book that convinced my to major in econ!).

Work out...

Yes, you read right, I do like to work out :-). No, I am not a glutton for punishment, but I do like to feel healthy and fit! To be honest, this is the closest I come to feeling athletic-- and believe me, I am far from athletic (I was the only kid in junior high who didn't get that "automatic A" for P.E. How's that for lack of coordination!). So, six mornings a week, I like to do something active for an hour, whether it be step, kickboxing, weight training, or yoga... I love reading and learning about fitness and finding new ways to keep strong and healthy!

Watch a good TV show

I don't seem to watch as much TV nowadays as I used to, but I still enjoy a good show now and then! At the moment, my favorites are: Friends, ER, and MTV's The Real World and Road Rules. Some of my all-time favorite shows have been: Quantum Leap, Homefront, Degrassi High, Golden Girls, Family Ties, Twin Peaks, Star Trek: The Next Generation...

Well, there you have it, me in a nutshell :-)
